Intermission: Erskine's Genetics

Not much here except a show of Erskine's parents and Erskine himself. Granted, he never knew either of them but still, fun to design!

Erskine's mother was born into the gang, but not his father. Dad (bombay) joined the gang on his own and became a guard student soon-after. Mom (somali) was training to be a raider, but when she befriended Dad, the bombay convinced (and swooned) her to train as a guard instead, which was far more 'suitable' for 'cats like them'. The somali made a rather poor guard, but paid no mind. She cared too much about spending more time with her friend to follow the career path she was more fit for, and as time passed on and the bombay continued to flirt with her, Mom began to develop feelings for him.

Sadly her efforts were somewhat in vain. Eventually she was ignored and pushed to side by her crush, who grew up to be more of a loner as time went on.

The bombay often took trips outside the camp on his own, as he had an outsider friend who he loved dearly and hoped would join him in Suran, but this outsider friend of his wasn't interested in joining the gangs and she preferred to lead a solitary life, turning down his offer. When he couldn't have the she-cat he truly wanted, the bombay settled for his ever-devoted somali friend and got her pregnant instead.

Mom was overjoyed with the news of kittens, but her mate was growing increasingly irritable and bitter about something he wouldn't tell her. As the pregnancy wore on, Dad only grew more distant... and almost, though he never said it in words... almost regretful about the kits he was going to have.

He eventually left Suran as a last effort to win the heart of his friend he had left behind.

Mom refused to believe he'd leave for good, but as the pregnancy wore on, she grew less hopeful and more distraught. She died not long after giving birth to the kittens due to complications she couldn't recover from.

As for Dad? Neither of Erskine's parents are alive anymore, so it's unknown whether he did attain the mate he truly wanted before he was found dead on the streets.

Erskine got his dad's dark coat, but his eyes, markings and the dirty-brown tint to his fur all come from his mother.
