Gathering Night

The hour has finally come for Stormflash to give Caeli Maskedhero's last words.  He's feeling nervous and apprehensive, but after taking a deep breath, he finds his resolve to approach the group...

When he first pulls her aside, she's a little suspicious and annoyed with his interrupting her talk, but when he mentions that he has a message from Maskedhero, the Consul she-cat is rather emotionally bewildered.  Stormflash goes on to explain Andlegur's closeness to the spirits of dead clan cats and, through a variety of wild and awkwardly human gestures that only a kittypet could know, relays Maskedhero's blessing to Caeli. 

The speech itself takes at least several minutes to convey to the she-cat.  But essentially, Stormflash describes how Maskedhero wants Caeli to know how proud he is that she's a Consul of Sonus and how she deserves it.  How he has been watching over her ever since his death in the blizzard.  How he doesn't blame her for his death and doesn't want her to ever feel guilty about it again.  How he doesn't regret a single day they spent together, from her first morning as an apprentice to their last nights spent on the journey they shared.  And, lastly... how he loved her.  That he regrets never having spoken up about it, but that all he wants is for her to be happy.  And to move on.

It's at this point that Stormflash starts to get a little emotional, as does Caeli.  But the odd and quirky tomcat has brought her more peace than he'll ever know.  Maskedhero's spirit is there smiling his approval, but of course, neither cat can see him.
